First Look – DUCK TALES (the second coming)

When I heard last year that Duck Tales was returning to the airwaves I was instantly excited. Duck Tales is an institution in our household. I grew up watching it every weekday afternoon, my wife watched it, and now our three year old daughter watches it. Sadly with my daughter, before watching Duck Tales, her only exposer to the Disney characters were either through the surreal versions on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse or the more traditional versions featured in the Disney Christmas specials. Through the Christmas specials Once Upon a Christmas and Twice Upon a Christmas she got to know Donald, Uncle Scrooge, and Huey, Dewy, and Louie. When my daughter noticed the original series’ DVD’s on the shelf, she wanted to watch them. It was a great experience to share something like that with her and for her to truly love it.

So long story short, we love Duck Tales

This is our first look at the reboot (really getting sick of that word). This picture has a couple things in it that make me excited. First is Scrooge with his determined expression that reflects his “devil may care” thirst for adventure and treasure. Secondly, Donald in his sailor uniform hanging on for dear life, yet again thrust into an adventure he didn’t ask for. Next are the nephews, always with clear heads to get Scrooge outta trouble.(Huey is reading what I hope is the Junior Woodchucks Guidebook). Last is Webby in the back seat, loving every second of the adventure.

The picture is full or action and puts us right in the middle of a story already in full swing as their jeep bounces through the jungle. The spears that mar the jeeps surface harken back to the pulpy high adventure the original comics had and it shared with the show.It does have a slight resemblance to the New Mickey Shorts (which worries me a little) but it shares the same colors and dynamics as the old Carl Barks and Don Rosa comics, which makes me feel comfortable with it. Word is also that the whole roster of Duckburg’s finest are returning with Mrs. Beakley, Gyro Gearloose, Launchpad McQuack, Flintheart Glomgold, Magica DeSpell, Duckworth, and the Beagle Boys. I can’t wait to watch it with the family.

The adventure begins in 2017 on DisneyXD.

  1. As the Blogger knows this is my favorite show as a child. This and the Gummy Bears were the best part of the Disney afternoon. This helped getting over no Captain Chesapeake. It wasn’t till I was a preeteen that I discovered the late Great Carl Barks and the man who carried the torch for him Don Rosa. The stories that they told regarding Uncle Scrooge and all of his nephews were truly some of the best comics I read then and still are to this day. Please Disney don’t screw this up and for the love of god make some merchandising available.
