Netflix and DreamWorks are bringing back the space monster slaying awesomeness of ‘VOLTRON: Legendary Defender’ this summer. This is a reboot of the original 1984 series, which in turn was a spliced, diced, redubbed version of the Japanese cartoon ‘Beast King GoLion’.
Featuring a star studded voice cast, ‘Voltron’ stars Steven Yeun (Walking Dead) as Keith in the Red Lion, Jeremy Shada (Adventure Time) as Lance in the Blue Lion, Bex Taylor-Klaus (Arrow) as Pidge in the Green Lion, Josh Keaton (Spectacular Spider-Man) as Shiro in the Black Lion, and Tyler Labine (Deadbeat) as Hunk in the Yellow Lion. ‘Voltron’ also stars Kimberly Brooks as Princess Allura, Rhys Darby (Flight of the Conchords’) as her advisor Coran, Neil Kaplan as King Zarkon and Cree Summer as the Witch Haggar.
Take a look…
The animation looks really clean and still maintains an 80’s vibe. The computer effects look to complement the 2D looking animation seamlessly. I really like the re-design of King Zarkon, he looks more imposing and less like a crown wearing pompous douche.
‘Voltron: Legendary Defender’ forms on Netflix on June 10, 2016.
