There are two types of harsh conditions to place a human being in, while saving money on filming costs. One is the desert which George Miller used in his breakthrough ‘Mad Max’ series. They other I find more scary, snow. Snow isn’t a background many use to show the traumatic state the world is in during the apocalypse. The desert seems better suited to show the whole “fire rained upon us” aspect of the end of days. The few movies that have braved the unforgiving cold of an endless winter have been as hit or miss as their scorched earth brethren.
‘2037: Winter’s Dream’ has a few good things going for it that hopefully will help it rise to the top of the (snow) pile. Firstly, this independent movie’s script was written by Academy Award-nominated Joey Curtis. Second, it has a very lofty concept that doesn’t begin and end at it being set in a future frozen wasteland.
Here’s the synopsis…
The year is 2307 A.D. The earth is frozen over and virtually uninhabitable. The manmade Chimeric Virus wiped out over 75% of the population. The remaining humans live underground, unable to survive the sub-arctic temperatures. With no “man power,” scientists bio-engineered Humanoids that possess great strength, speed, and tolerance to extreme cold. A rogue humanoid named ASH-393 escapes from captivity and threatens to lead a humanoid rebellion against mankind. Arizona Federation leader, General Trajan, sends an elite team of Spartan 7 soldiers to hunt down and terminate ASH. Decorated veteran humanoid killer, Commander Bishop, will lead the team and face his greatest foe.
Now here’s the trailer…enjoy.
This looks like a fun movie harking back to the era of movies like ‘Cyborg’ in the early 90’s.The film is currently looking for distrubion and hopefully will be somewhere in the near future to view. ‘2037: Winter’s Dream’ stars Paul Sidhu, Branden Coles, Brad Potts, Anne-Solenne Hatte and Arielle Holmes.
