Marvel has been making some great strides recently to make their movies feel and look more like comic books. This has been a beautiful thing to see them embrace a more sci-fi enriched universe. Don’t get me wrong, Marvel has done a fantastic job so far in making comic book movies feel more like a comic book, but the course begun by movies like Guardians of the Galaxy and the first Avengers movie really took it to a fantastical and alien place.
Since those two movies it’s been a little spotty as to how far Marvel is willing to push the weirdness and fantasy, but movies like Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol.2, and the soon to be released Thor: Ragnarok seem to be going in a direction I absolutely love.
All of these things can be said about Black Panther.
After the introduction of Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War, I can’t wait to see more of the character (plus I’ve always been a fan of his comic exploits as well), but thankfully Marvel isn’t resting on name recognition alone. Black Panther appears to walk a fine line between super science and mysticism and from what is seen in the first and second trailer, it’s a walk I can’t wait to take. Marvel’s cinematic interpretation of Wakanda paints it as a country with a foot cemented in the rich history of Africa while the other foot is cemented in a Sci-Fi infused futuristic world.
Here, take a look for yourself….
Sporting a very impressive cast, Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan., Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Forest Whitaker, Andy Serkis, and Angela Bassett. The movie is directed by Ryan Coogler and has a release date of February 16, 2018.
