MF5 – 2018: The Beginning

Happy first Friday of 2018 Laundry Roommates!!

I have to admit that I’m suffering from a horrible case of the post-Christmas blues. My time at home was so very special and great this year and the time seemed to fly by so, so quickly. To add to the angst, it’s a hard pill to swallow that I won’t get another chance to spend an extended amount of time with my family until August, when we take our summer vacation.

On the My Side of the Laundry Room front, it’s hard to usher in 2018 because I had so much stuff planned in 2017 that never came to fruition. Either it was because of work, or family, or a general lack of motivation there were a lot of things I didn’t get around to. I hope to remedy this by making a return to 80s pop culture as being one of my main focuses.

All-in-all, please stick with me as I make a game plan for 2018. Sadly this game plan may see the end (or at least a change) to Monstrous Mondays. It’s a feature I have loved doing but it requires a lot of research that has taken away from some of my other passions, like toys. So if Monstrous Mondays move forward they may be condensed to smaller pieces with a little less research. We’ll see. At this point I’m working on a couple toy/cartoon/comic items from the 80s and have put monsters on the back burner.

Anyway, here are 5 things that have been on my mind since 2018 has started, at least the fun dorky stuff.

1. A Renewed Love Of Wrestling

Either it was my renewed interest in wrestling video games or because of the classic 80s wrestling episode of LIVE Chris and I did, but I can’t get enough of Pro-Wrestling right now. Whenever I get a free moment I’m catching up with classic matches I loved from the past or watching newer matches from New Japan Pro Wrestling or Ring of Honor, I just can’t stop myself. I never truly gave up on watching wrestling but now I’m a fan again and can’t get enough. WWE was the reason I stopped in the first place, so I’ve totally sidestepped them in my return which is sad because a lot of the Indy Pros I liked are now there. I don’t know how you all feel about the world of wrestling, but I plan on writing about it time-to-time.

2. Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Honestly I don’t know what to say. I still don’t understand the amount of venom people are mustering for this movie. I loved it yet that seems to be reason enough for some people to personally attack me. If someone tells me they didn’t like it, I try to understand why and start a dialog that I hope would be two-sided and share my thoughts as well. But it never seems to go that way. Since when is the world (and life) as simple as black and white? I walk in a world of gray and I invite you to walk along. (Damn, I didn’t mean for this to have a parallel to the movie at all, eek!)

3. Transformers

g1-box-art

My two (soon to be three) year old son is obsessed with Transformers, even more than I was back in the day. Because of his love of the franchise (all facets of it) I have a renewed love of it as well. What is great is that he is a huge fan of the G1 stuff, which I exposed him to but never pushed him towards. One of my biggest thrills of the day is hearing him yell out “Transformers, Roll Out”.

4. Disney/Fox Request

Since Disney owns Fox now can we please get the 20th Century Fox fanfare before Star Wars movies again? As a kid the fanfare and spotlights of the Fox logo were as much a part of Star Wars as the John Williams score. Is it just me? Anyone else miss this?

5. Some Videos You Might Have Missed

Within the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, My Side of the Laundry Room released a couple videos on YouTube. Here they are if you care to watch…and thank you if you do.

I want to thank EVERYONE for making 2017 a great and fulfilling year here at My Side of the Laundry Room. You all are the best!!

  1. I just got two Transformer action figures for Christmas. My three year old loves them as well. It’s so fun introducing the classics that we grew up with to a new generation.

That 20th C Fox fanfare got me – and still gets to me – every time! Even w a completely different 20th C Fox movie, I always thot: ooh, going far far away anyway!
Relieved to discover I’m not alone!

    1. Right On, Brother!!
LOL, it got to a point when I was kid that the fanfare would start for other movies and I would get pissed that it wasn’t a Star Wars flick because I thought it was part of Star Wars. Didn’t realize 20th Century Fox was a whole company. LOL
