To help celebrate International Women’s Day (March 8) and Women’s History Month (March), I along with some of WordPress’s best bloggers are teaming up to shine a spotlight on some of our favorite fearless females from movies, comics, television, and beyond.
When I first heard that Kalie at Just Dread-full was doing Wendy Torrance from Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece The Shining (based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name) as her entry for FICTION’S FEARLESS FEMALES, it just clicked. It clicked that Wendy is a perfect addition to this years entries and she is one Fearless Female that gets forgotten when discussing the topic. I think she is mostly forgotten because she isn’t oozing in confidence or strength and her fear for herself and her son is her motivation to be fearless.
Wendy is also portrayed by the under appreciated Shelly Duvall who played a big part in my childhood. She starred in Popeye, hosted Fairytale Theater, and appeared in the movie Time Bandits. All three of which we staples around my house growing up.
Kalie goes into great detail about Wendy’s journey through the movie and if Wendy is a proper choice for a Fiction’s Fearless Female entry (personally I think she is a great choice). It’s an awesome read and after you take a non-regrettable and enjoyable moment reading her post, please check out her site that is chock-full of great horror content.
